Current Value is back with his Starfleet EP after many other successful releases on the dark drum and bass label Blackout, and it sure isn’t lacking. One notable thing that I’ve heard across this entire EP is that everything has a metallic sound to it. Almost as if all of the samples are coming from machinery or made to sound like it, which is something I truly love and miss about some dubstep artists. Even so, it truly is great to hear that sound expanding to drum and bass.
The title track Starfleet starts off with a great beat and an intro that gives you some of a hint as to what to expect, then out of nowhere slaps you with a MASSIVE bassline and a mindblowing melody. My next favorite track would have to be Electrify for a few reasons, mainly the 2-step percussion that could consider it jump up drum and bass. The reason why this is so important is because of how minimal some jump up is, almost as if it’s cut and dry straight out of Ableton. Which brings us to Electrify, which is beefed to the top with great sound design and an ambient melody behind the drop that makes this tune come full circle.
Big ups to Current Value for dropping another massive EP for us, here’s to many more! Check out Starfleet below:
