Dirtyphonics – Night Ride EP

February 12, 2017 by Nick Grindrod

It’s been almost exactly two years since Dirtyphonics last released an EP, and since then they’ve made a point of favouring quality over quantity when it comes to their production. A slew of singles and remixes later, they’ve finally come out with a three track offering: the Night Ride EP. Starting off cinematically on the title track, the French artists go full on hybrid, combining Dubstep with Trap and a Future style, that turns into full on Drum and Bass later on in the song. Needless to say, it goes hard.

Their next song is a collaboration with Virtual Riot, Beat Dem Up. It starts off with a style that reminds you of riding a motorbike on a rainy night in the 1980’s (or Night Ride), but then it starts building up to the drop. Which, sure quite coincidentally, will beat you up with a Hybrid Trap drop.

The final song, Lost In Your Love, features Example on vocals. It starts off with a bit of a night ride vibe as well, but then progresses towards Future Bass, which is exactly what it drops into. It’s more designed to be the kind of song that you go hard to in your car in a weekday rather than a festival smasher, but that’s exactly what electronic music could do with more of anyway. Well, to be honest, electronic music could do with more Dirtyphonics. Give the EP a listen.
