There seems to be a dramatic increase in the number of Dj’s being sued throughout the dance music world. The lawsuits range from character likeness, to copyright infringement, and now, the authenticity of some of Disclosure’s most famous songs. A songwriter by the name of Katie Farrah Sopher has challenged Disclosure, saying she is the original author of songs such as the mega-hit “Latch” with Sam Smith, “White Noise,” and “You and Me” with AlunaGeorge. She also claims to have written the song “Attracting Files” from AlunaGeorge’s 2013 album, Body Music. The lawsuit alleges that these songs were written in a notebook which was stolen by her ex-boyfriend, Sean Saywers, and given to people within the music industry in 2009. Her ex-boyfriend has denied this claim, but until everything is sorted out, we can’t know for sure.
Hopefully the claim turns out to be false, as Disclosure has quickly risen to fame with their album Settle, and plenty of festival appearances this year. The duo look to have a huge 2015, though this lawsuit could quickly dampen those hopes. Look for more on this story as it unfolds.
