I got the chance to get in touch with one of the Circus Records powerhouses Cookie Monsta before his stop in Milwaukee for Safe in Sound Festival, here’s what he had to say!
1. What is something you would have not believed if you told your younger self in regards to music?
I would have never even imagined that I’d be doing music for my job, or to travel the world because of my music! Crazy!
2. Do you have any advice for up-and-coming producers in regards to producing or marketing or anything in regards to the music industry?
I’ve always said to make what ever you want to make no matter what anyone says. I got lots of love and hate when I started making my stuff and I put my middle fingers up and continued to make stupid crazy bass music.
3. How does it feel to be one of the few big names still making the old school wobble type dubstep? And do you notice your fans give you more praise for it?
It’s kinda cool but sad too because a lot of the greats have stopped making this style of music. It hasn’t been easy over the years and I’ve been falling in and out of love with Dubstep. I’m in my good place rn though
4. When yourself, Funtcase and Doctor P do your back to back to back sets, how do you guys balance out your different styles?
Well we take turns, 3 mixes each. So if Funtcase drops a banger then I have to try and go harder, then Dr P will play some melodic anthem. So it’s a good mix! We put all of our best bits in a basket and draw for what is needed
5. What are your views on drum and bass in general as well as the American scene?
I don’t really get to see the DnB culture in the US because I’m always DJing on a Dubstep line up.
6. When you’re not on tour or working on music, what’s your favorite thing to do in your down time?
I love being at home with my family and living a normal life when I can. Walking the dogs, boozing down the pub and taking apart my car
7. If any species could take over the planet and end mankind, what species would you want it to be?
Kangaroos because we could “kick it”
8. Last but not least, what can we expect to see from you for the rest of 2016 and into 2017?
I’m back on my angry vibe so expect more heavy hitters and collabs with other producers.
You heard it here folks, Cookie has a big few months ahead of us so keep an eye on him. Check out what he’s released thus far and give him a follow on his Soundcloud below!
