I’d like to be the first to introduce to you, Ryan Blyth. We had the awesome opportunity to sit down with Ryan and talk about his latest release, “Trust Me”. While I want to make sure not to spoil anything, we chatted about the video for the track that features a surprise guest (surprise to me anyway), and the UK house scene. Check out the full interview below!
First, do you mind introducing yourself to our readers?
I’m born and raised in the county of Yorkshire which is in the North East of England. I’ve been Djing, running club nights and making music for about 10 years.
With the release of “Trust Me”, what has been the most exciting part about the support it’s received?
I think hearing a track myself and After 6 made in my studio getting a great response in the clubs and on the radio. Especially hearing it on Radio 1 for the first time.
The video for the track features narration from Helena Bonham Carter, how was it to receive the news she’d be doing that?
I’d heard that she’s a fan of the UK house scene so I wasn’t too surprised!
Being on the forefront of the UK house movement, what are some of the biggest changes you see coming to the scene?
Breaking the sound out internationally whilst keeping it pure. Working with like minded artists from other electronic genres.
You mention being influenced by some of the legends of the house/techno scene, what has it been like to come up and see your music evolve?
It’s been great to see the passion and enthusiam that my heroes like Armand and Morillo have after all these years. I know I will be the same.
How do you continue to stay true to yourself and your style as the entire electronic scene seems to change constantly?
It’s always evolving and changing. What you hear being played on the dancefloor will turn up in a Justin Beiber record in a year or so, nothing wrong with that. DJs are always one step ahead and it’s good that we can jump around within electronic genres. Props to Diplo for that especially. You could say ‘house’ is where I live but there are different rooms in it that I venture into when the feeling takes me.
With 2016 already seeing this huge release, what else can we expect from you this year?
I have new tracks with Rachel K Collier and Duane Harden that I’m really excited about.
What genre of music do you tend to listen to outside of the studio on your free time?
I actually spend most of my time refining my own productions, playing them in my car ! Then there’s all the promos and tunes from my producers friends to check out for Djing – so not much time for exploring other genres but I can get deep into Soundcloud and Spotify occasionally.
Do you have any advice for up and coming DJs/Producers?
Buy really good monitor speakers
Final thoughts?
It’s a great time for electronic music, never better.
