In the recent weeks, a certain Armin Van Buuren’s remix of the Game of Thrones main theme has caused some stir, dividing the EDM community among those who appreciated the crossover between music and television, and who (as always) don’t miss the occasion to accuse the artist of having sold out to the mainstream.
Well, to those ‘music fundamentalists’ I just want to reminds that this has long been a common practice among any type of artist, and it’s not necessarily synonymous of banality, incoherence and poor quality.
As further proof, and hoping to change your mind, here is a pick of some of my favorite remixes of movie theme songs:

Less famous than the ‘Pirate of the Carrabean’ one but absolutely great anyway.
In conjunction with the release of the last chapter of the Ethan Hunt’s saga, Tiesto completely reworked the famous theme song into an energetic and noisy electro house track, ready for the festival’s mainstages.

This is the latest entry in my collection but already one of my favorites.
Riding the Tropical House wave, Rap Scallion create his own version of Howard Shore’s masterpiece ‘Concerning Hobbits’ simply adding some groove and chords to the famous flute. Little work for big results.

Absolute love this one from the madman Victor Niglio.
Included in the Whiiite’s annual Hallowen Bootleg compilation, the Ghostbuster theme song has been turned into a devastating bouncing banger. Seriously I consider it one of the most brilliant remixes ever heard.

One of the first trap song I’ve ever heard in my life and still one of the biggest.
Trap gang-stars Yellow Claw along with (surprisingly) GRX (Marin Garrix), and Cesquaux sampled the Psycho shower’s theme and turned it into a mental, disturbing, distressing trap monster.

Could I forget Star Wars?
Of course not. There are thousands of remixed of every single sound in the movie, starting from Chewbecca’s growls to Darth Vader’s breath and ending with the classic Emperor March. Ookay has brought all together, creating the definitive Star Wars master – remix.
