Festival season is FINALLY here and we all expect our friends, our favorite music, and the chance for new experiences to be alive and well. In Atlanta there is no better way to kick off the extravaganzas of the EDM world than heading to Kingston Downs in Rome, Georgia for a little gathering known as Counter Point.
In less than a week, thousands of friends will be gathering under the lights and sounds of headliners Knife Party, Excision, Dillon Francis, GRiZ, Widespread Panic, Zedd, and Zed’s Dead for a Memorial Day weekend like no other. Counter Point invites people from all walks of life to come and make memories, dance feverishly, and forget the baggage of everyday life. In the open fields of Rome the masses gather not only for their favorite artist but for the friends they bring and the ones they will soon come to meet.
In my preparation for this up- coming weekend I have talked to past attendees and coordinators of Counter Point. The vibes I got from other’s stories and plans has given me a greater feel for what to expect out of this weekend’s festivities: a field of energy unmatched by any festival in the states and a spectrum of individuals that includes both the hippies and the head bangers.
Counter Point, now in its third year, has given fans a reason over and over again to come back.
Coordinators have put a lot of time and energy into focusing on what makes the fans happy, healthy, and comfortable. Aside from the tremendous line up on this year’s roster, the festival hosts an assortment of games and activities that will make the humid Georgia heat almost unnoticeable. And when fans need to keep themselves energized and positive they can visit the hundreds of vendors sharing their art, food, and merchandise all around the festival from sun up to sun down. Not to mention morning yoga classes open to everyone to keep those sore muscles flowing smoothly!
This year Counter Point is excited to welcome past attendees and new comers like myself. With a slew of activities, artist, and space, this year is bound to be a place of happiness and light as we come from different worlds and stay together in one. Whether you’re looking for the easy sway of artist like Kygo, the groovy funk of GRiZ, or the rage loving, quick feet shuffling dubs of Knife Party, there is no doubt in my mind no one will go home disappointed this year. See you at Counter Point!
