[Event Review] Big Gigantic- Skyway Theatre 3/31

This past Thursday Big Gigantic’s spring tour took over Skyway Theater. Playing to the sold out show was Melvv, Louis the Child and Big Gigantic themselves. Skyway, having just installed their new sound system, were working out the kinks. Unfortunately, they experienced some mishaps during Louis the Child’s set but eventually got them resolved just in time for Big Gigantic.

Despite sound issues, Freddy Kennett of Louis the Child continued to play all the right vibes. From our personal favorite, It’s Strange to From Here and even dropping a little Snoop Dog, Louis the Child had been the perfect fit to open up for Big Gigantic. After seeing Freddy play, the excitement for the duo including Robby Hauldren playing at festivals such as Firefly, Electric Forest and even Coachella is too real. Next up, Big Gigantic.

Prior to the funk duo taking the stage, you couldn’t help but notice the influx of lights that had been set up on stage. The lights lowered and the two stepped on stage, Dominic started serenading the crowd with the sax and Jeremy came in with the drums. It wasn’t until the first drop that they showed what those lights could do. With the backdrop visuals complementing the light set up, the stage production could not have been more perfect.

From old to new, unreleased to newly released, originals to remixes and even collaborations they played it all. Crowd favorite I Need a Dollar, Get Em High (Kanye West remix), and Funk with Me (Snails collaboration) had the crowd going crazy. Minneapolis had the pleasure of listening to Big Gigantic’s newest release Wave, a Major Lazer remix they had just released April 1st.

Though it was a Thursday show, that didn’t stop Minneapolis from coming out to show support for Colorado natives Big Gigantic. We wish the boys and the rest of the artists on the tour the best. We cannot wait to see them again in two short weeks at the Masonic in Detroit with Marshmallow.
