It probably isn’t proper to review a club on the grand opening. Although, being that I was there and saw what the venue that I stated I was optimistic to see open, I felt the need to give my two cents. Last Saturday, WAV opened their doors for the first time since New Years for an unofficial opening with this weekend being their official opening. I am extremely familiar with the space as it used to be an area where there was a useless water fountain that did light shows. In fact the only remnants of the old area is the escalator in the back. I’ll state this very early so I can get it out of the way. I loved the new club. It felt unfinished, but I wasn’t going to hold that to them. There is more to the club that will appear over time especially by the summer. Talking to some of the staff who were very lovely to deal with, they confirmed what I had expected.
Walking down the Playground, there was very little posters or signs regarding WAV. Now, I understand it is a shopping area and not just a big hallway for the club, but there is something odd about like not hearing any noise and seeing barely any promotion. Also, I was coming from Caesars and didn’t really see anyone heading to the event. Wasn’t stopping me. Wasn’t the first time I went to a venue like this. Sort of reminded me like an underground rave except nothing like a rave at all.
Getting to the event, there were two long lines. One was for people with tickets. The other was for…well, I don’t know. Probably for people who had bottle service or paying to get in? The line went fairly quickly. The only thing that I had a gripe with wasn’t with the club itself, but with the bars that the line covered. For those who don’t know. walking to the club, there are bars on both sides. Well, there were bars. Now they’re closed. I asked what they are planning to do with them, but no one had an answer. I am just curious. Also, the line blocked off like one of two bathrooms for all the bars. So, I was confused what happens to bar goers. Once again, this isn’t the club itself, but I was legitimately curious. I am just assuming this was for the preview party.
Getting in the club, you are smacked violently with bass and lasers and awesomeness. The area is huge. Seeing it all and taking it in was so awesome. It has an HQ-esque feel and only people that went to HQ will understand what I meant. There is a huge disco ball which I became enamoured with and kept losing myself in. Yes, I will admit I was fully sober, but it was so entrancing. The bars are huge. They’re so long. Plenty of space to get a drink and not fight for elbow room. That is a huge plus in my book. Ironically, that’s the main reason besides a seat to buy bottle service. The stage was practically the same from when they had bands and such as just apart of T-Street. Bars too. There were a lot of plugs on the wall behind the bar. I expect TV’s are going to be placed there like the rest of the club. It will really tie the place together.
The big LED screen and the lasers are a great touch. I love visuals. Clubs in Atlantic City have visuals, but WAV went next level with their visuals. It was like some of the best parts from festivals inside of a club. No wonder why Insomniac is involved. I expected with the amount of people that the club would be packed. Despite all of the people, there was plenty of standing room without bumping into anyone. I love clubs, but the moment I am squished, I tend to get claustrophobic unless I am dancing in the middle. That’s just a personal problem that I’m getting over, but this was so awesome. The upstairs was empty, but I am told that will be a VIP bottle area. I love those areas just to take in the music and the atmosphere without being bombarded.
The only downside to the club is the fact that it is no re-entry. This isn’t much of a big deal, but I need to reevaluate my gameplan. I used to get to the club real early, like when they open to get the cheapest price. I’d get stamped, go gamble and drink at the bars, and then come when the openers are all done. Now, I can’t. I am not totally upset. I just gotta finish dinner early and prepare earlier. I never heard of this, but I can understand it.
Overall, WAV surpassed my expectations and hopes. They were high, but the club looks amazing. Their April lineup blows every other club in Atlantic City away for the most part. This is a place is going to be a place to be this summer in Atlantic City. I guarantee it. I am very excited for what the grand opening will look like. I am very excited for this summer. Atlantic City is going to be back on the map again!
