Flite – The Cure EP

April 2, 2017 by Ty Sterling

Flite is an artist I’ve always kept my eye on since I first heard Blue Spark, now he has released a full length EP and I am truly giddy with excitement for it. The overall tone to every song is super light and almost as if you’re floating, something Flite has mastered in his tracks. Another thing to keep in mind, is that every single one of these songs was made live on his TwitchTV channel, flitednb

The Cure’s best part is that the vocals still manage to match that relaxed and floating vibe that most people cannot match with their voice. Not only that, it has enough of a clear melody that you could definitely hear this played out live at more upbeat events from Liquicity as it matches their tone PERFECTLY.

Cloud District starts off super 8-bit and retro and starts into a future bass progression that almost sounds similar to Blackmill, which is definitely not anything to be ashamed of. Later on the tune moves into the liquid drum and bass with very gentle but powerful basslines to wrap up this masterpiece.

Be Still is one of those tracks you can tell Flite went all out on the production aspect of things, it’s a very full song in the sense that there’s never any dead air and you always have an intricate melody with a very full bassline in your ears. Even down to the snare and kick, you can hear the time that was put in. Overall this track might have to be one of my favorites from the EP just due to the ambiance of it as well, perfect for studying or driving.

Earth Past is an interesting track that I was truly not expecting to hear, and I mean that in the best way possible. It seems a lot of artists these days are truly exploring and making what they truly want similar to how Porter Robinson created his vision. Not to say that Flite is copying Porter at all, but the same type of style and tempo which always makes some of the best tracks. Truly my favorite tune of this EP. If you’re more of a drum and bass fan, maybe try out the Club Mix as that is mostly the same just with a drum and bass tempo!

Overall I’d have to rate this EP an 8.5/10, truly phenomenal considering that Flite is a drum and bass artist living in the USA where drum and bass may not be as prevalent but he still stays true to what he loves and continues to develop his sound. Keep it up man, truly a big release. Check out The Cure below!
