Flume – Skin Companion EP

December 2, 2016 by Nick Grindrod

freesia_green_web_ready_1024x1024

It’s fair to say that Flume’s sophomore album Skin changed the game (just like his debut self-titled album), and the trendsetter is back with a companion EP to the album. Each of the four songs brings something new to the table, while also progressing Flume’s sound that has brought him so many fans around the world.

Heater is true to its name: it’s a Heater. It’s classic Flume, with synths that only he could use and a level of production that only he could perfect. Trust, with Isabella Manfredi on vocals, is more chill than Heater with a dreamy style but enough bass to make it easy enough to dance to. v is where you hear Flume’s experimentalism at its finest, especially Percussion-wise, with a rhythm and background synths that will be music to your ears. Well, of course it will be. Quirk, the final song, is a closing song through and through, almost being Ambient and featuring background chords which will bring vibes upon vibes.

This EP isn’t going to yield any radio hits (as they were all on the album), but it still shows that Flume’s got it, which any fans of his will be very happy about. What’s more, there’s another companion EP to come as well, presumably in the new year. Meanwhile though, you can listen to each song in the EP below by toggling through the playlist.
