Imagine Dragons would not be considered an electronic act, and thus any remixes done in the spirit of dance music ultimately will fuse two different genres of music. The Shah Bros have taken the vocals and the background noises of the original and added a beat you can dance with. Much like Audien’s remix of Pompeii, this remix allows those fans of both genres to embrace the middle ground where they can dance to the electronic elements of the song while singing their hearts out to the vocals that carry such a deep message.
I love this remix because it doesn’t try to do too much to the original. Some remixes will keep the original beat, or some of the melodies, but the Shah Bros have created almost an entirely new song by infusing their electronic style into the vocals and the characteristic sounds from the original. The melodies and rhythms they create that overlay vocals and in between verses are not loud and obnoxious, but rather laid-back and danceable, keeping to the spirit of the original song’s ability to be mellow. This song is a free download and I highly recommend you take advantage of that.
The melody that plays in between vocal samples is incredible. It bridges the gap between the electronic world and the alternative feel of the original. Here I find it is easy to dance to the higher frequencies and the light-hearted beats. There isn’t too much complexity with these melodies but that isn’t a problem because the entire remix keeps s simplistic view and is accessible by everyone from both cultures. The balance between electronic and alternative is achieved with the vocals and the electro melodies in a masterful way.
My music taste expands beyond just electronic music and I Bet My Life is currently one of my most played songs. I think, this remix will soon catch up to that number.
