Interview: Filatov & Karas

September 21, 2016 by Jemma Abraham

We spoke to Filatov & Karas about all things production and inspiration, seeing as the platinum-selling Russian duo recently turned heads with the wicked “Satellite” for Ultra Music.

Who/what were your main influences when creating “Satellite”?

The spirit of 80’s and 90’s music. And our own previous tunes/remixes. I think you can hear it =)

What does it mean to you both to work with labels like Ultra and Universal?

These are big companies that know how to work and they have more opportunities than the small independent labels. But if the tune is s***, even they can not help!

Who does what in terms of your production process?

We completely work together and each of us can do everything. But Filatov is more about songwriting/composing and Karas is more about mixing/mastering.

You’ve gone platinum back in Russia – are your Imany remixes still getting lots of love?

“The Good,  The Bad and The Crazy” is the best known in Russia.  But “Don’t Be So Shy” is a real worldwide hit. And it was at the top of the charts for many months.

Do you consider them your biggest achievement so far in your career?

We hope to get lucky and make one of our own upcoming tunes even bigger than this remix.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given from someone in the music scene?

The only person that can give you the BEST advice is you. So listen to all the advice but do not treat it as a plan. Probably the best one is  from Roxette – “Listen To Your Heart”.

What else do you have coming up in 2016 – more releases/live shows?

We are full of gigs until 2017.  Most of them in are in Europe. We are preparing a full band live show,  that we already tested during ESKA Music Awards in Poland and couple big releases are coming,  including one more brand new tune with ULTRA.
