Interview: SMILO

June 30, 2016 by Jemma Abraham

We had the chance to speak with Swedish production trio SMILO this week, who filled us in on making their latest single for Universal Sweden.

SMILO – thanks for joining us. Tell us more about yourselves and where you are from.

We are 3 happy guys making music together. Living in in Sweden (Stockholm), we all met through the DJ culture in Stockholm city. Oscar and Dennis have known each other since they were kids and the three of us have worked together on this project for about 1.5 years now.

What’s the music scene like in Sweden? We see a lot of great acts coming out from there.

We believe it’s a good music culture over here, with a lot of talented people making tracks – singing, writing songs and performing. It’s nice to have so much music-wise in our hometown of Stockholm.

You have a new single just out on Universal called “Young Again”. Do you feel young again now that you’ve finished it?

Kind of yeah, hehe. I mean we believe that having no worries, good friends and having a lot of fun is all good. We try our best to live in the moment :).

Where is your favourite place to make music?

Probably the place where the inspiration hits you. We have made the hooks for a lot of our tracks on the move.

Do you find it difficult to be inspired sometimes? What do you do to overcome this?

I mean if you focus to much on making the next worldwide hit you could certainly be un-inspired. Great music comes from good feelings and living your life. We try to not worry to much about it, but when it does hit you, it’s always a good idea to go out partying or go on a trip somewhere.

What is the most difficult challenge you’ve overcome with music?

Probably the stage fright. When we performed on TV in front of millions of people, that was our seventh performance ever. So we have overcome that part for sure!
