I hate writing articles like these. James Brown’s drummer, Clyde Stubblefield has died at a Madison, Wisconsin, hospital. He died of Kidney failure. The reason I am sharing this with all of you is because of the man’s creativity and genius. Clyde’s drumming on “Funky Drummer” was sampled over 1,000 times by artists such as Eminem, Public Enemy, Dr. Dre, and even electronic artists such as Aphex Twin! This man was responsible for so many different drum loops, it is insane! That said, he received very little in royalties. In fact, in 2000, he was so in debt from fighting against bladder cancer, Prince covered his $80,000 bills because he considered Clyde to be his favorite drummer. Truly a sad creative mind that we lost. Rest in peace, Clyde Stubblefield.
