In an interview with Billboard, Lido stated “I definitely pushed myself on this…I’m an over-thinker in life, in general, with things that I care about. But this? I don’t know if I’ve ever cared as much as I have cared about this album.”
This 11-track album is a roadmap of the maturation of style for Lido. The maturation is of lost love. He is able to talk about his feelings through synthesizers, vocals, and instrumental samples. He also told Billboard, “The music, therefore, is a little tainted by that; the blame games and all the bullshit of the relationship. That’s really not that interesting to me, but how we work as human beings emotionally, and how we evolve emotionally — now that’s weird as f—.”
The songs below are giving a roadmap to what his thought process was during and well after the breakup he went through during this maturation. Each bit is a different snapshot into what he went through. Give it a listen below, thanks to Spotify and get a track-by-track breakdown following that. Purchase it on iTunes.
- Catharsis
With Vocals speaking to each other as the intro, the song quickly transitions into the sample of synth that Lido loves to start off a set with. The song is slow and continues with ritardando after ritardando to give the song the slow relief of starting this beautiful LP. Giving the song the title Catharsis hit the nail on the head. - Murder
A visually enticing piece was released less than a month ago with from Lido on this track. Murder, such a dark name for a song is beautiful produced. The theme of darkness and sadness leak into this track with vocals stating “hurt me” repeatedly. The beauty in this piece is how Lido combines different instrumentals in this mix of darkness and synthesizing vocals. The song ends with almost a lullaby of music. - Dye
“Babygirl I would die if you would dye your hair,” is an interesting way to open up a track. With instrumentals that are percussion heavy, giving a rhythmic beat, the vocals beg for ‘babygirl’ to never change. The drop is a dramatic combination of synths to give the feel of dramatics. The song seems almost to be two people fighting over a woman trying to meet the standards of another and a man attempting to keep an individual the same. - So Cold
This song is a winter-esc song, meeting the title of So Cold. This track wraps up with an almost tribal percussion sample. This kind of sample is much harder than other samples I have heard from Lido in the past. I love it. - Crazy
Crazy was the first confirmed track that I heard regarding coming off of Everything. I loved it because of the amazing visuals that Lido put into the music video. Crazy is a mix of vocals and samples ranging from synth to live instruments. This is a combination of all the skills that Lido has developed over the time he has been producing music. I love how one moment it is a fully-synthesized instrumental with vocals being distorted to singing supported by brass instruments. Lido continually flips the beat, keeping listeners on their toes. - Falling Down
This song starts out with vocals and piano, one of the instruments that Lido has a deep appreciation for. The instrumentals to the track give a sense of urgency of whoever is singing that they are falling down. It’s a short track, but still a strong support to the album. - Citi Bike
A satirical track attacking relationships. It almost sounds like a track by the comedian Bo Burnham, which his the childhood feels. Nonetheless, when it gets to the chorus you can tell that this is a Lido classic where he is taking vocals that play out how people attempt to get over relationships. There are more vocals than in a usual Lido track, but Citi Bike has some lines that you might actually laugh at. Don’t count this track out. - Only One
Another track that starts off like an R&B track, Only One is a track that I expect nothing less from. This is the kind of track you want to be playing in the background of a bar or coffee shop. The vocals that are attached aren’t clear artists singing, they are chopped samples or voicemail-style recordings to play during the mellow guitar solo. A very good track to relax to. - You Lost Your Keys
An ‘end your night’ kind of song, Lido is clearly beginning to wrap his album up. Piano and singing vocals gives the feeling of a live performance as the song progresses. The entire track are these sad lyrics accompanied by piano. - Angel
This track starts off like the opening to a magical forest in a Disney movie. I had to make sure that my music didn’t turn off before I realized that this was the soothing intro to Angel. Once vocals begin, this track has a brief time of vocals supported by piano until Lido adds in, individually, instrumental synths. - Tell Me How To Feel
The final track in this album; Tell Me How You Feel is a solemn end, using a sample of an organ. Added to the track are bursts of energy and sound that almost fills the listener with moments anger. Half way through the track, the song goes into a live-performance-style artist singing with beautiful, slightly twisted piano playing. The piano soon turns into vocals that have been distorted. The third transition in the track goes to a female vocalist supported by a chorus of humming. This is what leads to the end of the track, with an abrupt end to the song…
