The first thing I had noticed when I started listening to this LP, is that it stood out from most drum and bass nowadays. It didn’t go for the biggest, loudest and heaviest snare or high hat that it could find. It reminded me of an artist who is truly in it to make his own sound and stand out from everyone else. Now myself being a huge fan of liquid drum and bass I always feel like I’ll never enjoy a neurofunk release as much as I should, however that definitely was not the case here.
The song that truly stood out to me in that aspect was Speaker, it incorporated the element that I love the most about liquid which is that it creates most of the melody of the song through the bassline. Test Run had an incredible production behind it, whatever was sampled to give the small sound of metal colliding together in the initial part of the first drop got me hooked for the rest of the song. It definitely lives up to the LP’s name in that sense as well, which I really enjoy when a release is based around the theme of an album. Manouver in my opinion is the most unique track on the whole release, just for the sole fact that it is the first track I’ve heard where the melody has almost an echo and fading effect.
Overall I really enjoyed this EP, and prior to hearing it I hadn’t known who MachineCode was. However, I’m happy to say he’s gained another fan here at EDM Assassin because of how unique his sound is. Keep up the good work man, I can’t wait to hear more releases from you, as well as the rest of the LP.
