Mat Zo Champions the New Producer Generation

January 7, 2016 by Chez Harvey

The producers forum

Unless you’ve been living with Santa Claus at the North Pole lately you no doubt will have seen the many and varied tweets on ‘The Industry’ by producer Mat Zo. While many may see them as twitter rants, there was a fair amount of sense and also some eye-opening statements as to how and why the EDM scene is how it is. Most of these little ‘dummy spits’ are written off by blogs as DJ’s/Producers complaining but Mat Zo has taken it to a place where it will actually benefit the many and varied producers who feel they have no place to learn and to share and receive feedback on their tracks. The young producers, still in the bedroom or perhaps the up and comers who get small shows but have no reach to attract the larger audience and catch the eye of the big names in the EDM world.

Step in Mat Zo and a conversation on twitter with TheFPIA and Sebastien Lintz about the pitfalls of sending music to labels and A&R and by the end of the day ‘The Producer’s Forum’ is born. Mat Zo not only said it was overdue, he set about making it happen while in the middle of this conversation. He bought the domain for 10 years and had Ninth Parallel among others start to build the site and within hours; yes hours, we have a fully functional forum site where producers can not only send their tracks but talk sound production, mixing, mastering and anything else needed to evolve their education in the art of producing music.

I’ve had a look at the site and it’s a no frills one that simply focuses on the people who are there to learn and upgrade skills and gives them a voice to feedback for their tracks and if it’s anything at all, it’s a place where you will discover some new music that is worth listening too but you haven’t been able to find.

This industry has a lot of closed doors and for Mat Zo to open one so swiftly and see it through to fruition is a fresh breath of air, and to see others such as Henry Fong mention his willingness to get on and lend a hand shows that all is not lost for young producers. It’s free to join and moderated so if you’re serious about your art and want to learn from some of the best then I suggest you register here.

If nothing else it will link you up with likeminded others and who knows you may actually learn stuff.

Kudos to Mat Zo and all involved for making this a reality.
