It’s been 4 years since Jon Gooch collaborated with someone as his Drum n Bass alias Spor, but this release has proven that the wait has well and truly been worth it. What’s amazing about this song is that the production skills of 19-year old Memtrix shine through perhaps more so than the seasoned heavyweight in Spor, who’s just completed a comeback for the ages. Guitars and pianos take pride of place before the drop, which hits in an avalanche of the bass that only Spor could produce. The sounds of the two producers work incredibly well together at the same time, and it’s almost impossible to differentiate between the skills of the two, even though they both have very different stories in the Drum and Bass scene. There’s another collaboration yet to come from these two, but Darkest Hours is more than enough to quench your appetite for Drum and Bass that caters toward mainstream ears, but with sounds that diehard fans will truly appreciate.
