Normally I wouldn’t double up on a remix writeup (Grant did the Brooks remix here), but I made an exception given how drastically different the two takes are. Nearly polar opposites actually; this version has that laid-back, upscale lounge vibe that gets perfect for getting the weekend started.
I absolutely love it when producers / remixers opt to go the funk route. I always welcome a smooth 2-step swing as a change of pace to the standard “4 to the floor” patterns. And as much as I love the deep, soul-rattling bass that only electronic music can provide, there’s just something awesome about a dirty bass guitar going to work (case in point: check out Oliver Nelson’s remix of Tove Lo’s Habits). On that front this remix is no exception; busy baseline licks compliment the simple chords on the keys (not to mention to the dope rhodes intro). The end result is a funky house groove with a tropical touch, and I highly recommend a listen. You can find the free download here, be sure to support.
