Acid House was massive in the 1990’s, with the sound becoming synonymous with warehouse raves and good times. One of the most famous acid house dance tracks was Pump Panel’s techno-fused remix of New Order’s Confusion. It’s ten minutes long and doesn’t go anywhere, but it went massive through its inclusion on the Blade soundtrack in 1998 (even though it had been around for 3 years already). If you’ve heard it, it will most likely have been in a mix with Sandstorm and Blow Ya Mind from the Blade movie – possibly the defining rave mix from the 1990’s.
The remix inspired other songs to heavily sample it, namely the Warp Brothers and Aquagen’s Phatt Bass (with the drop being the same as the original remix), and Public Domain’s Operation Blade (with Hardstyle elements added and more progression throughout the song). Coincidentially, both of these songs were released in December 2000 and reached the top 10 in the UK, a testament to how well known and loved Pump Panel’s remix was in the first place.
