It wasn’t too long ago that DJ John Lutchman first introduced me to the G-House sub-genre. He played for me Malaa’s infectious track Notorious and I was instantly hooked. A catchy hard driving baseline, chopped and screwed hip-hop samples. It had a dark ambiance and a touch of aggression. In short, it was right up my alley. So naturally my interest was piqued when another G-house track was sent my way by a huge advocate of the movement. Queens-based DJ Sanity has been promoting the sub-genre here on the east coast for some time now. His newest release takes the style and makes it all his own. There are a number of interesting elements to his track, most notably his trap breakdown around the 2:50 mark and his drop switch-up towards the end. Overall it’s a good track to hear what G-house is all about.
I’m excited to see the growth of the sub-genre. If this is any indication, it sounds like it’s on the right track (please excuse that painful pun). Take a listen for yourself below and be sure to support.
