Ookay showed us that he is capable of more than just trap mixes when he released his single “Thief” earlier this year. His EP “Cocoon” moves away from his usual trap style and takes a softer approach. Featuring 5 tracks with all different styles, he shows how dynamic he is as a producer. The first song, Back Again,” is a tribute to his close friend, BIG MAKK, who passed away in a car accident back in August. Ookay honors his memory with a song filled with emotion and touching lyrics:
Can’t believe that it had to be this way
And I didn’t even get to say goodbye
I wish that you could be here for just one more day
The second track, “Long Time,” has a funky vibe and robotic vocals that kind of remind me of “Days Go By” by Dirty Vegas. “New Jack Swing” and “Bring It Back” are probably the most similar to Ookay’s older style, but they aren’t even really that trappy. “Sure” stays true to the overall song-like theme of the whole EP. I enjoyed listening and can’t wait to see what other styles of music he’ll experiment with. Check out the EP on soundcloud!
