Open Your Eyes // A Bassnectar Documentary

December 3, 2015 by Grant Austin

Last night, I was browsing through my Facebook feed as I am apart of a number of Electronic Dance Music groups. Most of the time, it is straight garbage or memes, but this documentary came up. At first, I almost dismissed it. I’m going to tread lightly here as some people can get very passionate. I am a Bassnectar fan. I am not a super fan nor am I an extreme fan who you see go to outrageous extraordinary lengths to see him. Although, I read the description and it had my curiosity. I am so glad I did because this video really stuck out to me.

This video is by Cara Allen (Subscribe to her YouTube channel) who goes to Savannah College of Art & Design and made this video for a film project. She created “Open Your Eyes” (which is named after a remix that Bassnectar did by ill.Gates & Captain Hook). The purpose is to examine the music, philosophies, and movement of the Bassnectar community. Do yourself a favor and check it out as it will make you reconsider the fans. It also helps that Cara Allen did a fantastic job presenting it.
