Melbourne-based funkadelic Glitch Hop master Opiuo has just released his third studio album, and it’s just as good as always. As someone who’s had his own unique style and never had anyone come close to replicating it ever since he burst onto the scene in 2010, it’s always interesting to see how Opiuo’s sound progresses. With Omniversal, he’s taken his funky Glitch Hop style and made it easier to play live with instruments, presumably in aid of his live show. He also dabbles in techno a few times, bringing a darker element to the usual uplifting style that he’s known for. That being said, he doesn’t sacrifice his music’s natural bounce, and even though he strays from the path a little bit it brings a bit of fresh air to his style. Omniversal is a very enjoyable album to listen to, so get ready to nod your head for about an hour, and if you can catch him at one of his live shows. You can listen to all twelve songs on Soundcloud below, and buy the album on Bandcamp if you want.
