At the end of January, I wrote about how Philadelphia City Councilman, Mark Squilla proposed a bill that would require most venues to record “the full name, address and phone number of all performance acts.” I included a petition for you to sign to actually have your voice heard. The petition reached 15,856 supporters before Philly reacted to this heinous bill. That is what happens when a firestorm strikes on social media which was helped by bars, performers, news, and bloggers alike.
This bill has officially been shot down.
It ended in practically a day as Squilla, the police, and other city officials were bombarded so hard. Now, like I stated, they meant well with the intentions in the bill, but royally screwed up. This bill should have never been written like that. They never wanted to hurt the scene. There will be a new bill. We will find it. We will read it. We will react. As always, we want the best for our scene. Not just the electronic dance music scene nor the music scene, but the whole entertainment industry as a whole.
