Steve Aoki – Neon Future II

May 13, 2015 by Nick Grindrod

Steve-Aoki-Neon-Future-II-2015-1400x1400

Finally, the one we’ve all been waiting for! Steve Aoki is back with his third album, Neon Future II. It follows on naturally from Neon Future I, released late last year, and this is to be expected as the vast majority of the songs were written at the same time. It takes on a darker vibe than Neon Future I but still stays true to Aoki’s Electro House style, although it does venture into Big Room on occasion. Songs like Darker Than Blood (with Linkin Park) and Heaven On Earth (with Sherry St Germain) show this the best, with drops that will crush dancefloors but still remain dark. Others are just fun, like I Love It When You Cry (Moxoki), Lightning Strikes (with NERVO and Tony Junior) and Hysteria (with Matthew Koma). The latter part of the album is less generic, with slower songs in Home We’ll Go (Take My Hand) and Light Years juxtaposing the uplifting synth-based tunes that make up the first part of the album. If you like straight up bangers you’ll love this album, but if you expect a concept album where each and every song has a place you’ll be disappointed. Nonetheless, it’s filled with drop after drop that’ll have you dancing like mad, and it’s extremely well produced and compiled for that purpose. Have a listen on Steve Aoki’s Soundcloud and download it on iTunes!
