Tha Trickaz Are Releasing A New Song Every Monday To Hype Their Upcoming Album

December 28, 2016 by Nick Grindrod

This is big. Paris duo Tha Trickaz haven’t released an album in six years, but now they’re at it again and releasing more music than we can handle in preparation for their upcoming album Cloud City. Due to release on the 15th of February for free, they’re currently three weeks into their weekly release schedule, and the four songs that have come out have all been amazing. One of those is OG Purp (third on the tracklist), a collaboration with Creaky Jackals that was released a year ago and you can read about here.

The first and fourth songs (Cloud City and Heritage) are both mixes of Tha Trickaz’s Vietnamese heritage with their unique French Trap sound, both featuring oriental style instrumentation in amongst the insane bass sounds and squeals that the duo are well known for. They aren’t afraid to drastically change the BPM either, using that to completely switch up the second half of Cloud City. Heritage is more oriented to Future Bass than Cloud City (Trap), but not in the usual way. They’ve used samples from a dan bau, a Vietnamese string instrument, and combined that with bass and a beat that (as usual) is an absolute stomper.

The second song, Drop, is very different. It’s Hip Hop, featuring Dutch rappers that Tha Trickaz have remixed twice over the last two years. Well, their collaboration is even meaner than you would have expected from those remixes, with vocals that will make you want to commit a homicide (not actually) and a Trap beat that will smash your speakers. The drop is bass heavy, but the few squeals in between absolutely make the song. It’s killer.

Tha Trickaz are at the absolute top of their game, and with another song coming out next Monday (and the Monday after, and the Monday after that) we’re more than excited to hear it all. Listen to what’s already been released below.
