The turn of the millennium was a golden age for French House, with the nation’s take on house music becoming extremely popular around the world. One of the songs that made French House so popular was Lady (Hear Me Tonight), Modjo’s first and most popular single. It was released in mid 2000 and was an instant smash, hitting the top 10 in 20 different countries (including the US dance chart). It heavily samples the sped-up guitar riff from Chic’s “Soup For One”, which gives it the French sound. The sing-along vocals and the bassline are both very catchy, and the beat is very danceable. Combined with the riff, Modjo hit on one of the best recipes for a French House song that you could find, and it paid off in dividends. Nearly sixteen years later it still occasionally gets played on commercial radio, which is a sign of its massive success. Watch the music video below and vibe out to a classic house song!
