Hoo boy, this one takes me back. Swamp Thing was released in 1994, and I can still remember dancing to it in the living room at 3 years of age – it was one of the first dance songs that I heard, and it resonated with the older population as well. It hit number 3 in the UK and Australia at the time, and giving it a listen makes it easy to see why. It combines incredibly catchy banjo playing with a dance beat and bass stabs, rounding out to form a unique yet impressive tune that you just have to dance to. It has the ‘90’s influences without being too ‘90’s, and it’s also got enough progression to not get boring even though it’s a simple song. The beauty of it is that it still makes you want to dance two decades after it was released, and puts you in a good mood every time you hear it.
It’s still making waves in the EDM scene as well, with the Pegboard Nerds having just released a revamped version of the song that includes Trap and Breaks, giving it a fresh new feel but still with the banjo that reminds you of a redneck wrestling a catfish in a swamp. All in all, this is one of those songs that you won’t have heard in years and will absolutely love when you listen to it again, so do yourself a favour and do just that.
