You might be wondering why you’ve never heard of The Presets or My People, or why I’ve included it as a throwback. Well, the answer is that it only went big in Australia when it was released at the end of 2007, but it’s really good enough to go big worldwide, which it unfortunately didn’t. Given its release date its production is absolutely mind-blowing, especially the heaviness of the growling synths that they used and the overall effect of the song, especially with the vocals that carry a significant message about refugees. It was used in pretty much every ad that you could think of at the time, and even made it into a Top Gear episode – which says a lot given the nature of that show. So educate yourself, turn the volume up and give this true blue Aussie classic a listen.
