WAV Nightclub in Atlantic City shut down. This is the club that I touted could be the next HQ Nightclub did not live up to the hype what-so-ever. I won’t deny that it started off well as I reviewed it at its VIP Party. Their grand opening brought forth Skrillex and Tommy Trash. This is the same weekend that “Purple Lamborghini” showcased to the world in Skrillex’s set. Unfortunately all of that and more could not have saved the club.
Only July 8th, there were rumors that the club had shut down. This was easily fueled by their website being up, but all of the coding stripped from the site. Their socials all-of-a-sudden disappeared. Their listed telephone number was disconnected. No one in charge could even be reached. In the Press of Atlantic City, WAV stated:
WAV nightclub located inside Atlantic City’s Playground Pier is undergoing a management change. WAV is not closing. The club will be closed Friday for re-organizational purposes, but will reopen Saturday.
It was only until today that I finally checked on many of the staff’s social media pages to help confirm this truth. WAV Nightclub has shut down. According to one security member, they weren’t even told and showed up to find the club was not open. This is extremely sad to see as the club couldn’t even make it through one summer.
Although, this doesn’t surprise many. A number of insiders stated that they didn’t expect the club to last. Many locals expressed their disinterest and stating it was a hassle when you had to “Get a ride to the casino. Walk through the hotel lobby. Walk through the casino. Walk into the Playground. Go down the stairs. Head all the way into the back. Finally get in where not granted re-entry.” I had my doubts when I noticed the caliber of artists started with Skrillex, MAKJ, Tommy Trash, and others and slowly turned into artists that didn’t have the same following.
This isn’t to say that the nightlife in Atlantic City isn’t doing well. Borgata’s new Premier Nightclub is showing that it is dominating the game with artists such as Diplo, Laidback Luke, and a number of others are still populating the nightclub for long lines and good times. Hopefully we can see a revival of the space, but we’re no longer optimistic.
