No stranger to the sounds of Woodrowgerber, I had the chance to sit down with him ahead of the release of “Lost Girls” and get a little insight into what went into making this track and how the rest of 2016 is shaping up. You can find the interview after my review!
The intro of “Lost Girls” defies explanation as I cannot begin to tell you the name of the instrument that created those gorgeous sounds (more on that below). Following up with that are the dreamy pads and the characteristic bass we’ve come to know through Woodrowgerber’s music. The downtempo electrohouse track gives listeners a variety of flavors as the bass/percussion pick the pace up, but the melody slows down your thinking and drives the point home. A roller coaster of emotions follows this track and once you read the answers from the interview, you’ll hear the track in a whole new light.
Check out the interview below and be on the look out for more new music from Woodrowgerber this year! Let us know what you think!
– Lost Girls is up for release, where did the inspiration come from for this track?
I feel like guys get a lot more freedom to cause problems and mess up in life than what girls do. Guys can hurt people, hit rock bottom, party way harder, rip people off, whatever, and majority of society kind of gives them a pass as being Lost Boys or just experiencing “growing pains”. I’m not sure girls get that same leniency and the mistakes to be made during that crazy phase in a girls life seem to be more permanently painful and or damaging. Or that’s how society seems to treat them anyway. So I started envisioning these rough around the edges girls trying to make their way in life as Lost Girls, coming out of the struggles and bad choices with scars, but being tougher for it I guess. The whole track is centered around that question… are we harder on girls as a society, does the world tend to prey on them more than guys? So I’m not sure if the track inspired that thought process or vice versa, but that’s the jumbled inspiration that is Lost Girls I guess lol.
– As we are heading into festival season, what can we expect from you in the coming months? Performances, new music, a tour?
Originally me and the team were approaching this year with festival performances as the primary focus, but then we were approached by a large US company who is interested in me developing a special woodrowgerber summer residency type show, and or special performance at one of their theme parks. Me and the team then linked up with another amazing company back east who’s worked with Tiesto, Hardwell, Hakkasan, etc, on creating an incredible experience centered around walls of water, 3D imaging, lasers, and a large portion of my catalog. I probably shouldn’t even be talking about all of this, but assuming everything comes together and meets everyone’s standards, this would be for this summer or the summer of 2017. So this along with a few other irons in the fire is keeping us extremely busy as we focus on a very specific goal for all things woodrowgerber. As far as shows in the meantime, I’ve done a few this year here in Los Angeles, and one with Pioneer in Anaheim, so you will probably see me pop up here and there if you follow my feed! Last September’s European tour was amazing so I have some more pending EU dates for this fall as well. I’m kind of in love with Paris.
– We still have a long 2016 ahead of us, looking out to the rest of the year, what things are in the works? Any big projects?
Well other than the one above which is nuts, my previous 2 albums will be hitting the Discovery Channel this summer, plus an unreleased batch of music I did which puts about 100 + woodrowgerber tracks in all on TV. Still waiting to officially announce the details for that whole thing, but it’s pretty cool. Along with that we’re working on potential 3 month project that would put me in Europe working on a new record, and again a handful of dates over there. Since the EU project is pending, that record might be pushed back to Spring of 2017 before I start cracking on it. I mean, Faceless Kings just came out in September followed by my singles Gun Slinger and now Lost Girls, so who knows. At the very least I might release a handful of singles leading up to the next record. Last year’s album pretty much murdered me so I’m cool approaching everything in a zen like way this year lol. But yeah, there is a TON of cool stuff in the pipeline I’m just waiting to announce!
– What are you most excited about with the release of “Lost Girls”
I’m just excited to see it make its way into fan’s playlists and join their collection of woodrowgerber music. I work really hard to make my music more of a longterm listening experience than just an ear candy banger, so hopefully everyone adopts it into their life and gets some milage out of it…. and I’m really stoked about the instrument in the intro of the track. That thing traveled 10,000 miles from South Africa (via a friend) to be on this new single lol.
